Prepare all ingredients.

Wash the red currants, then drain them in a colander so the excess water runs off.

Sort through the currants. Remove all stems, leaves, and spoiled berries.

Chop the berries in a blender, or simply mash them with a masher until they release their juice.

Transfer the currant puree to a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Add a couple of spoonfuls of water and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

After it comes to a boil, simmer the jam over low heat until the volume is reduced by half. This will take approximately 30–40 minutes. Skim off the foam with a spoon.

Pour the hot jam into clean sterilized jars. Screw the lids on tightly, turn the jars upside down, wrap them in warmth, and leave until completely cooled.
