Cherry candied fruit
Description
For added flavor, you can add cinnamon and orange zest to the syrup while cooking the candied fruit, if you like. Store the finished candied fruit in a tightly sealed jar or food container. Cherry candied fruit can be used in baking. While it's in season, don't miss the chance to try it.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Wash the cherries, drain in a colander, and let excess liquid drip off. Dry with paper towels.
- 3
Step 3

Sort the cherries. For candied fruit, use only whole berries without damage or spoiled parts. Remove the pits. I use a drinking straw for this. Transfer the cherries to a deep bowl.
- 4
Step 4

In a saucepan, combine sugar with water and bring to a boil. Simmer the syrup for 5 minutes.
- 5
Step 5

Pour the hot syrup over the cherries, mix and let stand for 6 hours.
- 6
Step 6

Then transfer the cherries to a saucepan together with the syrup and bring to a boil. Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, remove from the heat, and let stand for 6 hours. Then bring to a boil again and cook for another 10 minutes over low heat.
- 7
Step 7

Strain the cherries through a sieve and leave for 1.5 hours so that all the syrup drains into the bowl. The syrup can then be used for cooking purposes.
- 8
Step 8

Then the cherries need to be dried. This can be done at room temperature by leaving the cherries for several days, or in the oven at a low temperature. I use a vegetable dehydrator, and the candied fruit is ready in 4-5 hours.
- 9
Step 9

Afterwards, if desired, the finished candied cherries can be rolled in powdered sugar. The cherry candied fruits are ready—enjoy your meal!
