Papaya candied fruit
Description
You can buy candied papaya in a store, or you can make it yourself. In this case, you'll be sure of the product's quality. Candied papaya can be added to baked goods or enjoyed with tea instead of sweets. But don't overdo it—although this product is healthy, it's not recommended to consume in large quantities. Still, it's truly delicious. Here's how to make candied papaya: 1. Wash the papaya, peel it, cut it in half, and remove the seeds. 2. Cut the papaya into cubes or strips. 3. Prepare a syrup from water and sugar, then add the papaya pieces. Boil for 5–7 minutes after the syrup comes to a boil, then remove from heat. 4. Once cooled, bring to a boil again and cook for another 5 minutes, then remove from heat. 5. Add lemon juice and lemon zest, and boil for another 5 minutes. Cool, then boil again for 5 minutes. 6. Now we need to remove excess liquid. Use a colander and let the syrup drain off completely. Don't rush—allow about 1 hour for this process. 7. Spread the moist candied pieces in a single layer on a plate and let them dry for about 12 hours. Then sprinkle with powdered sugar or granulated sugar, mix gently, and continue drying. Stir the pieces occasionally during drying to ensure even drying. If needed, sprinkle with more sugar. 8. Drying time depends on the size of the pieces and may take 1–2 days. Store the finished candied papaya in dry jars and seal with lids.
