Candied Orange Peel
Description
Chopped candied orange and lemon peels are often added to various baked goods—cakes, pies—resulting in incredibly aromatic desserts with a vibrant flavor. Candied orange peels can also be served as a dessert on their own, simply sprinkled with sugar or powdered sugar, or drizzled with chocolate. Of course, you can buy candied orange peels at the store, but I assure you, they will be much tastier and, most importantly, completely natural if you make them yourself. And it's very easy to do. My detailed recipe will help you.

Step 1

1. Prepare all the necessary ingredients. This time I took the peel of one orange. Before peeling, the orange should be thoroughly washed; I scrub it a bit with a clean sponge.

Step 2

2. Place the peels in a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Then drain the water and rinse the peels. Cover again with fresh water, add 0.5 tsp of salt, bring to a boil, and simmer for 10 minutes. Drain the water, rinse the peels, and repeat the process once more. Boiling the peels with salt helps remove bitterness. Now cover the peels with fresh water, bring to a boil, add sugar (reserving a couple of spoons for coating), lemon juice, and cook for 30–40 minutes. The peels should become soft.

3. Cool the cooked orange peels and cut them into thin strips. Place them on a baking sheet and put in the oven for 1 hour. The temperature should not exceed 140 degrees; I even slightly leave the oven door ajar so that the candied peels dry rather than bake.

4. The orange peel candied fruit is ready. While still hot, sprinkle them with sugar or powdered sugar.
