Delicious baked treat for the whole family. Here is a very simple and affordable way to make Buryat shanghi. This dish is not only tasty but also healthy. The filling is quite versatile: you can use not only barley grits, but any other grain you prefer, as well as mashed potatoes or cottage cheese, for example. Serve with tea or coffee.

    1. There should be no difficulties with preparing the dough, as it's quite simple. Mix the flour and cold margarine, finely chopped or grated. Rub together into a uniform crumb. It might happen that you'll need to add more margarine if the crumb turns out too dry and starts to crumble.

    2. Add salt and pour in the sour milk. There are many variations for making Buryat shangi using different sour milk products. If you have homemade sour milk, that would be perfect.

    3. Pour in about half of the milk first, then gradually start mixing the dough. It should be soft, elastic, and firm enough. Cover the bowl with dough, and refrigerate it overnight.
