
Cheese and Onion Buns
Description
Perfect with tea and coffee. The dough for these buns can be prepared a day in advance or even a week ahead by freezing it in the refrigerator. There's no need to thaw it beforehand. Serve cooled or slightly warm.

Step 1

1. Beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Cut the butter into cubes. Cut the cheddar cheese into cubes. Chop the green onion. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. In a small skillet, melt ½ tablespoon of butter. Add the onion and cook until soft, about 1 minute.

2. Place the onion in a small bowl and mix with Cheddar cheese and 1 tablespoon of flour.

3. In another bowl, mix the remaining flour with baking powder and salt. Add pieces of butter and mix.

4. Lightly beat the eggs and cream and add to the flour mixture. Mix all ingredients well together using a wooden spoon.

5. Add the cheese mixture to the dough and mix.

6. Place the dough onto a well-floured surface and knead for 1 minute. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 2.5 cm.

7. Cut the dough into rectangles. Brush with beaten egg and place on a well-greased baking sheet. Bake the buns for 25 minutes until golden brown.
