Cheese buns
Description
The baking is simple and quick. I know many are afraid to work with yeast dough, but I assure you: it's not that difficult. In fact, kneading the dough can even be relaxing. If you can't find provolone, cheddar makes a great substitute here. In any case, be sure to make these best homemade cheese buns. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1
In a medium bowl, mix flour, yeast, salt, sugar, olive oil, and 3 tablespoons of Parmesan. Then add some warm water and mix with a fork until the ingredients are combined. Add the egg, remaining Parmesan, and provolone.
- 2
Step 2
Continue mixing with a fork until the dough forms a single ball. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of flour onto a flat surface, place the dough on it, and start kneading. Add another 2 tablespoons of flour, one at a time, continuing to knead.
- 3
Step 3
Knead until smooth and elastic, then shape the dough into a ball and place it in a medium-sized, lightly oiled dish (make a few diagonal slashes on top with a knife).
- 4
Step 4
Cover the dough (I used a folded tablecloth) and let it rise for several hours (mine took 3 hours).
- 5
Step 5
Remove the dough from the bowl and transfer it to a floured surface. Cut the ball into 6 pieces, shape them into buns, and make shallow slashes on top. Place on greased parchment paper, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
- 6
Step 6
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Brush the buns with milk and sprinkle with additional Parmesan or shredded provolone.
- 7
Step 7
Bake for about 30 minutes. Let cool or eat while still warm.
