
Buns with raisins
Description
Perfectly pairs with tea and coffee. If desired, you can use black currants instead of raisins, turning these everyday buns into a festive treat. Serve cooled or slightly warm.

Step 1

1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the cold butter into small pieces. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Add the butter pieces to the flour mixture and blend using a pastry cutter or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

2. Add raisins and mix until evenly distributed throughout the dough. Make a well in the center and add buttermilk and egg, mix until smooth. Do not overmix!

3. Place the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead 5-6 times. Shape the dough into a 20 cm diameter circle. Using a cookie cutter or a round mold, cut out 6 cm diameter circles. Gather the scraps, re-roll, and cut out more circles.

4. Place the buns on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 3.5 cm apart. Brush the buns with milk and sprinkle with the remaining 1 teaspoon of sugar.

5. Bake until the buns turn golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.
