Puff pastry buns with cottage cheese and apple

Description

Homemade baking for tea. The buns come out crisp on the outside and soft inside. Use dry curd cheese (farmer’s cheese), because once you add egg and apples the filling can turn runny. If that happens, stir one teaspoon of starch into the filling. Sweet-tart apples work best; you can add ground cinnamon or a gingerbread spice blend. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.

    Prepare all the ingredients needed for puff pastry buns with cottage cheese and apples. Wash and dry the apples, and thaw the puff pastry.

    Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Put the cottage cheese into a bowl, add the sugar, a pinch of salt, and pour in half of the beaten egg. Add the vanilla sugar and mix well.

    Peel and core the apples. Dice the apple into small cubes, add to the cottage cheese mixture, and mix.

    Lightly flour your work surface and lay out the dough. Roll the puff pastry a little into a rectangle and spread the cottage cheese filling with apples on top.

    Roll up the dough sheet into a roll, pinch the seam closed, turn it over and brush with the remaining egg. Cut the roll crosswise into pieces and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    Place the baking tray with the buns in a hot oven and bake at 180°C for 30–40 minutes, until done. Afterward, remove the baking tray, cool the buns, and serve.
