Buns from yeast dough in the oven
Description
The baking is simple and quick. Homemade buns can be sweet or savory. We suggest making colorful buns with cabbage directly baked into the dough. These buns are recommended as a bread substitute to serve with soups. They pair perfectly with solyanka or broth. Serve warm or chilled. Ideal with tea.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Dissolve 1.5 teaspoons of yeast in a glass of water. Let it activate. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of salt.
- 2
Step 2

Sift the flour into a bowl. Pour in the yeast water. Knead the dough.
- 3
Step 3

Pour in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and knead the dough. Shape it into a ball. Transfer to a clean bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise.
- 4
Step 4

Sauté the chopped cabbage in vegetable oil. Simmer, adding spices and salt. The cabbage should become soft, tender, and almost fully cooked. Let it cool, then add it to the risen dough. Knead again, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for about 30 minutes.
- 5
Step 5

Punch down the risen dough.
- 6
Step 6

Divide the dough into balls. Place on a baking sheet.
- 7
Step 7

Brush each bun with beaten egg. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and bake until done.
- 8
Step 8

Here our buns are ready. Remove them from the baking sheet. They come off easily (I use parchment paper).
- 9
Step 9

I recommend serving these buns with a vibrant cabbage aroma alongside first courses or simply on their own. This is not sweet baked goods; they are closer to hamburger buns.
