Poppy seed buns made from yeast dough will be loved by both adults and children, especially with a cup of tea. Serve cooled or slightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Gather all the ingredients on the table right away. Slightly warm the milk in a saucepan. Take the butter out of the refrigerator in advance so that it becomes soft by the time you use it.
- 2
Step 2

For the dough, prepare the sponge. In a large bowl, crumble the pressed yeast by hand, then add 1 tbsp of sugar.
- 3
Step 3

Pour in the warm milk and vigorously mix everything with a whisk until the yeast is completely dissolved.
- 4
Step 4

Add 100 grams of flour to this yeast mixture and vigorously mix everything with a whisk—this is the starter. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in a warm spot for 30 minutes.
- 5
Step 5

After half an hour, the sponge had noticeably risen and acquired a bubbly texture.
- 6
Step 6

Place the soft butter into a separate bowl and add the remaining sugar for the dough and vanilla sugar. Beat with a mixer until creamy.
- 7
Step 7

Then beat an egg into this butter mixture and add salt.
- 8
Step 8

Using a mixer, incorporate the egg until fully combined — this is the enriched mixture.
- 9
Step 9

Place the leavened mixture onto the starter and mix it in with a spoon.
- 10
Step 10

Now start sifting the flour in portions and begin kneading, first with a spoon, then with your hands.
- 11
Step 11

Knead the dough until it becomes soft, smooth, elastic, and no longer sticks to your hands. Shape the dough into a ball in the bowl, cover the bowl with a kitchen towel, and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours.
- 12
Step 12

By this time, you will have time to prepare the poppy filling. Rinse the poppy seeds, pour them into a bowl and cover with boiling water.
- 13
Step 13

Drain the poppy seeds using a fine sieve and add sugar.
- 14
Step 14

Mix. The filling is ready.
- 15
Step 15

The dough has already risen; it has noticeably increased in volume.
- 16
Step 16

For convenience, divide the dough into 2 parts and roll out each part into a rectangular sheet on the work surface.
- 17
Step 17

Spread the poppy seed filling in a layer over the dough.
- 18
Step 18

Roll the dough into a log, you should have two logs. Cut each log into equal pieces—these will be the rolls, the base for future buns.
- 19
Step 19

Place all the prepared buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush each one with beaten egg using a silicone brush. Let the buns rest on the baking sheet for 15 minutes. Then bake them in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25 minutes.
- 20
Step 20

Slightly cool the finished buns and serve.
- 21
Step 21

Ready. Serve at the table.
