Then treat your loved ones to delicious “Buchteln” buns; it’s very easy, even an inexperienced housewife can manage if she follows the step‑by‑step recommendations of the recipe. Prepare the ingredients.

Add the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar (from the total amount) to warm milk (temperature no higher than 38 °C). Stir and place in a warm spot for 10 minutes.

Beat in 1 egg, add melted butter.

Add the remaining sugar, vanilla sugar, and a pinch of salt to the flour, then stir.

Add the flour mixture to the milk‑butter mixture, knead the dough with a mixer using the “hook” attachment, mixing for 7–10 minutes until smooth. If you knead by hand, also at least 10 minutes.

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and place it in a warm spot to ferment for 1.5–2 hours.

The dough should increase in volume by at least twofold.

Divide the dough into 8 equal parts and roll each into a ball.

Roll the ball into a flatbread about 10 cm in diameter. Place the jam in the center of the flatbread.

Gather the ends of the flatbread into a knot and secure the ends well.

Thoroughly butter the baking dish.

Place the buns in the pan seam side down. Cover with plastic wrap and let them proof for 1 hour.

After an hour, the buns have increased in size. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees, bake the buns for 20–25 minutes.
