1. Warm the milk, vanilla extract, and a couple of tablespoons of sugar. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining sugar, sifted flour, starch, and salt.

3. Place over heat and simmer for a couple of minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Add a couple of tablespoons of the mixture to the eggs, quickly mix. Pour the eggs into the saucepan and cook again over low heat for 2-3 minutes. Add the butter.

4. Cover the finished cream with plastic wrap, let it cool slightly, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. You can store it for up to 3 days.

5. While the cream is chilling, you can prepare the dough. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. In a deep bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter, a little milk, and vanilla.

6. Beat the remaining milk with the egg. Pour into the batter and mix until smooth.

7. Place the dough into a greased and floured heatproof baking dish. Put into the oven and bake until golden brown (about 30-45 minutes, depending on the dish).
