Description

This is a very hearty version of cutlets in sauce. If desired, you can add other vegetables—such as bell pepper, zucchini, or fresh tomatoes. The more vegetables you use, the juicier the dish will be.

    1. To prepare the filling, mince the meat (you can use a combination of pork and beef, or chicken, for example). Finely chop the garlic and fresh herbs. Cook the rice until half-done, and pour boiling water over the oat flakes. Season with salt and pepper to taste, add your favorite spices and dried herbs (in this case, coriander, basil, oregano, and paprika). Add the egg and mix everything thoroughly.

    2. Grease a heat-resistant baking dish with vegetable oil (bottom and sides). With wet hands, shape the meat mixture into patties and place them in the dish. Bake in a preheated oven for about half an hour.

    3. Meanwhile, you can start preparing the sauce. Peel the onion and slice it into thin half-rings. Place it in a frying pan with a small amount of vegetable oil and sauté until translucent.

    4. Peel the carrots and grate them. Add to the pan with the onion and sauté until soft. Then pour in tomato (juice or paste; for those who like it spicy, add adjika or chopped chili pepper). Bring to a boil and season lightly with salt.

    5. Remove the baking dish from the oven and pour the sauce over the top. Bake the meatballs in the sauce for about 10 minutes (depending on their size, the time may be increased). Before serving, sprinkle with a pinch of fresh herbs. Very filling, aromatic, and delicious.
