Bigus with rice
Description
This recipe won't take much time. Bigos is an East Slavic cabbage dish. It's cooked with all sorts of ingredients—different kinds of meat, sausage, potatoes. Every home cook has their own secrets. I suggest you try this recipe for bigos with rice. The dish turns out filling and delicious, and it's vegetarian. Cooking it is easy and simple—just try it yourself. 1. Shred the cabbage. You can cut it into cubes or thin strips—whichever you prefer. It won't affect the quality of the dish. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and lightly press down. 2. Peel the vegetables. Dice the onion and pepper, grate the carrot on a coarse grater, finely chop the celery, and mince the garlic very finely. 3. Place a skillet with high sides on the stove over medium heat, add vegetable oil, and sauté the onion, carrot, celery, and garlic for about 5–7 minutes. 4. Add the cabbage to the vegetables, pour in about a cup of water, add chopped tomato or tomato paste, sugar, and spices. Simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes. 5. Rinse the rice and add it to the vegetables. Season with salt and mix. Add enough water to completely cover the contents of the skillet. Cover with a lid and simmer over low heat until the rice is cooked, about 20–30 minutes. Add more water if needed. And that's it—your dish is ready. Sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs and serve. Admit it—this recipe for bigos with rice is easy enough for any home cook. Serve hot.
