Baursak
Description
Perfectly pairs with tea and coffee. When preparing the dish, carefully monitor the oil level in the pan. While frying, the dough should not touch the bottom of the pan. Since baursak is a type of bread, it can be eaten as a standalone dish or served with various soups or main courses (at your discretion). These fried buns are great for festive occasions or a regular family dinner. Another advantage of this dish is that it's easy to feel full after eating it, yet it contains fewer calories than regular wheat or rye bread. Can be served with tea or coffee.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1
With your hands, mix all the ingredients in a large bowl. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes elastic. Roll it into a ball, cover, and let it rest in a warm place for 4 hours.
- 2
Step 2
Place a saucepan or deep skillet over heat and pour in sunflower oil to a depth of 3 cm.
- 3
Step 3
Divide the risen dough into 7 or 8 medium-sized balls, and roll each one out to a thickness of 5 mm. Cut the rolled circles into strips 10 cm wide, then cut these strips crosswise to make small rectangles. Don't worry if the edges are slightly rounded—the baursaks don't need to be perfectly shaped, as long as they are roughly the same size.

Step 4
Carefully place pieces of dough into the well-heated oil. Add as many pieces as will fit in a single layer in the pot, making sure they do not touch each other. Fry the flatbreads on both sides until golden brown.

Step 5
Remove the finished crackers from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil. After that, the dish can be served.
