Lenten bagels
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Bagels can be stored for a long time. Both adults and especially children love to snack on them. They can be eaten plain or stuffed with various fillings (meat mince, mushrooms, cheese, vegetables, cottage cheese, berries, or fruits). This baked treat can be made during fasting periods. Serve the bagels right away or after cooling. The baking is ready—serve at the table.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1
Sift both types of flour into a bowl, mix with a pinch of salt.
- 2
Step 2
In the center, make a "well" and pour in the olive oil and a couple of tablespoons of water. Begin kneading the dough, gradually adding the remaining water.
- 3
Step 3
The dough will be dense and elastic; wrap it in plastic wrap or a plastic bag and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- 4
Step 4
Take the dough and pinch off a small piece, roll it into a sausage shape, and form a ring.
- 5
Step 5
Pour water into a saucepan and bring it to a boil, then add the bagels to the boiling water. As soon as they float to the surface, immediately remove them and transfer to a colander.
- 6
Step 6
Grease a baking sheet with vegetable oil and place the bagels on it. Put them in a preheated oven at 200 degrees and bake until golden brown, remembering to flip them halfway through for an even crust.
