Azerbaijani shawarma
Description
The recipe won't take much time. With minimal ingredient costs, you'll get a rich flavor and aroma from the prepared shawarma. Do not serve the dish with various vegetable salads or mix flavors—authentic shawarma is made with meat and a few vegetables, but always with garlic sauce. Serve hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. Pre-fry chicken drumsticks or thighs with aromatic spices. It's better not to use chicken fillet—it tends to be too dry in taste.
- 2
Step 2

Cut the meat off the roasted chicken drumsticks and slice it into strips. Rinse the tomatoes and remove the green cores. Slice the tomatoes into pieces and cut the pickled cucumber into small sticks. You can optionally use a fresh cucumber.
- 3
Step 3

Peel and press the garlic clove into a deep container, add sour cream of any fat content, then add salt and pepper. Wash and chop the dill, add it to the sour cream mixture and stir well.
- 4
Step 4

Brush half of the sauce onto the edge of a thin Armenian lavash, then place sliced tomatoes and cucumber on top.
- 5
Step 5

Wash the lettuce leaves and shake off excess moisture. Place them on the lavash together with the sliced chicken meat.
- 6
Step 6

Spread the remaining garlic sauce and distribute it evenly over all the slices.
- 7
Step 7

Carefully fold the edge of the lavash and its side edges, then roll it up into a roll, gently pressing so as not to break the dough. If desired, prepare another one the same way if cooking for two people.
- 8
Step 8

Preheat the grill or contact grill, place the dough on the plates, and grill for about 2-3 minutes on high heat until golden brown.
- 9
Step 9

Cut the finished dish in half and serve hot.
