Description

Perfectly suited for tea and coffee. Everyone loves these crispy, flaky French croissants, don't they? They can be baked with or without filling, sweet or savory. I'll tell you how. Can be served with tea or coffee.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

I always have ready-made puff pastry in my freezer. You can make croissants using either regular puff pastry or yeast puff pastry. I prefer croissants made from regular puff pastry. Take the pastry out of the freezer and let it thaw.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

Carefully, avoiding the white part, grate the zest from the orange using a fine grater. We will need approximately half a teaspoon of zest.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

Cut a 1 cm thick slice or round from an orange. Using a sharp knife, cut out the orange "fillet," removing the membranes.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

For each croissant, I placed 4-5 pieces of fillet, but my orange was large.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

Slightly roll out the dough, shaping it into a square. For comparison, in the photo one sheet is factory size, while the other is rolled out. Cut diagonally into two triangles.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

Place one quarter of the zest and one quarter of the orange fillet on the wide part of the triangle. Add one third of a teaspoon of sugar.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

And now we start shaping the croissant. To prevent the juice from leaking out and burning during baking, gently press the dough around the filling.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

And roll the dough into a croissant shape.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

For the next two croissants, I did it a bit differently—I sprinkled the dough with sugar and lightly rolled it with a rolling pin. I didn't add sugar to the oranges this time (experimenting). Then proceeded as before—placed the zest and orange slices on top and rolled them up into croissants.

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

I brushed the croissants with water and sprinkled them with sugar on top—those were the ones with the sweet filling. I was experimenting too :)

  11. 11

    Step 11

    Step 11

Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

  12. 12

    Step 12

    Step 12

Aromatic and delicious orange croissants are ready! Time for tea!
