    2. Combine the water and milk, warm them in the microwave for just a few minutes until warm, then add the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir and let sit for 10–15 minutes until a foamy layer forms on top.

    3. Put flour into a deep bowl, add egg yolk, vanilla, salt, remaining sugar, and soft butter.

    4. Wash the orange thoroughly and grate the zest, which we will need a bit later. Then cut it in half and squeeze out all the juice—you will need 100 ml. Add the juice to the flour and the remaining ingredients, and pour in the risen starter as well.

    5. Knead a soft and slightly sticky dough. If necessary, add a little flour during the process.

    6. Cover the bowl with a towel and place it in a warm spot for about 1.5 hours. During this time, it should rise significantly in size.

    7. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle about 5 mm thick. Sprinkle with orange zest, poppy seeds, and sugar to taste.

    8. Now fold the dough into thirds, overlapping both sides towards the center.

    9. Lightly roll the dough with a rolling pin and cut it crosswise into equal strips, about 3-4 cm wide.

    10. Twist each strip of dough into a spiral 3-4 times and join the ends together. Place the finished "wreath" buns onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a towel and let rest for 20 minutes. Then brush with egg yolk or olive oil and bake at 180°C for about 25 minutes.
