English muffin
Description
Muffins (buns, scones) are served warm or cold. They can be eaten not only for breakfast, but in England they are specifically served for breakfast. The baked goods are unsweetened, so they are typically eaten with jam, marmalade, honey, butter, or cream cheese. I recommend preparing these. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and ½ tablespoon of sugar, then set aside for 5 minutes until a thick layer of foam forms.
- 2
Step 2

2. In a separate container, add ½ tablespoon of sugar, butter, milk, and heat in the microwave to melt the butter.
- 3
Step 3

3. When the yeast is ready, pour in the milk mixture, add salt, and mix in 1 cup of flour, stirring thoroughly.
- 4
Step 4

4. Next, add flour 1/3 cup at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. In total, you should add 2.5–3 cups of flour. Make sure the dough is not too dry.
- 5
Step 5

5. Sprinkle a flat surface with flour and place the resulting dough on it. Knead for 4-5 minutes, adding a little more flour if necessary. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes.
- 6
Step 6

6. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1-1.25 cm, cut out rounds using a cookie cutter or a glass, re-roll the remaining dough and cut out more.
- 7
Step 7

7. Sprinkle the baking sheet with cornmeal, place the dough on it, press down, flip it over, and press again—this way the baked good will be coated with cornmeal on both sides, preventing it from sticking.
- 8
Step 8

8. Leave the preparations in a warm place for 1.5 hours.
- 9
Step 9

9. Fry the patties on a preheated cast-iron skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- 10
Step 10

10. Transfer the finished muffins to a wire rack to cool completely.
- 11
Step 11

11. Serve the baked goods with jam.
