American pie
Description
Perfectly pairs with tea and coffee. The filling in this pie won't run all over the plate when sliced, thanks to a small amount of starch, which gives the apple juice a slightly thickened consistency. The dough resembles puff pastry, yet doesn't require time-consuming multiple rollings. The top of the pie is covered with a lattice or crisscross pattern of dough. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. See the recipe
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients. Let's get started!
- 2
Step 2

Place cold butter, flour, and powdered sugar into the bowl of a food processor.
- 3
Step 3

Turn on the food processor for a couple of minutes until a fine crumb forms.
- 4
Step 4

With the mixer running, pour in the vanilla extract and water in a thin stream. You will see the dough begin to come together into a ball.
- 5
Step 5

Gather the dough, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- 6
Step 6

While the dough is chilling, prepare the apples: peel, remove cores, slice, sprinkle with lemon juice, and mix to prevent browning. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, and starch.
- 7
Step 7

Mix the apples with the starch mixture.
- 8
Step 8

Take the dough out of the refrigerator, divide it into two parts, roll out the larger part to the diameter of the pan plus 2 cm for the edges. Place it into the pan, and prick it with a fork.
- 9
Step 9

Place the apple filling.
- 10
Step 10

Roll out the smaller portion of the dough into a circle. Cut it into strips. Weave a lattice. Reinforce the edge; I use the edge of a teaspoon for this.
- 11
Step 11

Place the pie in the oven and bake at 180 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
- 12
Step 12

Let the finished cake cool slightly on a rack.
- 13
Step 13

Cut into pieces, serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.
